Greedy Domainer Slime
New post over on Name Brief, which was getting sort of dusty. Watch this carefully because it's a small version of the debate that will ensue if ICANN auctions TLDs and then proposes to do good deeds with the proceeds.

Nominet charges considerably less for .UK than VRSN does for .com, PIR does for .org, Afilias does for .info, or Neustar does for .biz. Nominet's lawyer has said that due to the way they're set up, refunds would be illegal.

Sounds like greedy domainer slime to me. Why aren't they demanding that PIR stop funding the IETF?

That is true. It should be tackle for good. Well everything has a solution, try to look for some way in order to understand the real problem. Do you have an idea to be identical with Sean Miller? Are you familiar to Sean Miller? He is a lucky guy. He is one of the youngest coaches in NCAA basketball, and after he led Xavier University to two Elite 8 appearances and one sweet 16 in five seasons, he's sought after. That's why the University of Arizona recruited Sean Miller to coach the Arizona Wildcats, and he won't ever need a payday loan again. He's getting $18 million, signing bonus $1 million, for 7 years. He apparently will never be known for his amicability towards his players, as most found out about him leaving through the media. Still, you'll never hear of a payday loan being asked for by Sean Miller.

Over on the Nanog mailing list , IETF regular Randy Bush, known as much for his extreme language and hot temper as his technical acumen and support for the Internet in the developing world, asks voting members of Nominet to help keep "the greedy domainer slime" off the Nominet Board of Directors.

As it turns out, Nominet, the registry that runs .UK makes a lot of money. Underscore “a lot of money.” Much more money than it needs to run the registry. And it’s sitting on large piles of cash.

protection in cyberspace, it should be under an appropriate set of legal rules,
rather than through further expansion of trademarks.

Issues like these regarding domains are increasing in number everyday. The last one that I can recall is betwwen google and the site youtubeislam.com. There must be a good policy built regarding these issues.

The sitting Nominet Board believes it should be able to charge, or tax, your domain names for amounts it knows are in excess of its costs, so that Nominet, in its infinite wisdom, can bestow those funds on the UK Internet community. The domainers believe that inidividual registrants should decide what they want to do with the excess funds.

My care homes site is on a .com rather than a .uk and cost me much more.. doesn't seem fair!
