Graphics requirements for "Second Life"
by
Edward Hasbrouck
I commend you for your initiative and investment as an individual and an ALAC member. This is the sort of thing that ICANN as an organization should be doing.
I got all the way through the sign up process, only to find that "Second Life" requires different graphics support than the onboard graphics on my motherboard. "Second Life" is a for-profit, commercial game. It's optimized for profit, not for global accessibility. And the price of a new computer would be comparable to the price of a ticket to Sao Paulo, at least in low season if booked well in advance.
Perhaps this will prompt ICANN to adopt more accessible alternative means of facilitating remote participation, transparency, and bottom-up consensus development. The virtual meeting space would be much more useful, anyway, if it were integrated with the physical meetings.
