The news from Kenya is troubling enough by itself, but it also may have an impact on ICANN's choice of location for its annual meeting, now scheduled for November 2nd-7th, 2008. Before the election fraud and the post-election violence, Kenya was the front-runner among the African bids to host ICANN's 10th Annual Meeting (at which new ICANN Board Chair Peter Dengate-Thrush promises a "special celebration"). With only 10 months until the meeting and the pressing need to decide on a meeting venue promptly, expect the violence and political volatility in Kenya to give alternative venues a second chance.
