At the encouragement of some friends, I signed up with Facebook. If you're on this thing too, we can facebook up. I hadn't looked at Facebook for a while, and it looks like its vastly improved. I'm still not sure what is to be gained with this over, say LinkedIn (where I also have an account), but I'm willing to give it a whirl.

Two interesting threads on the .SU issue. Start here on the ICANN weblog and then check the conversation on the ALAC mailing list.

According to recent press reports, ICANN is looking to delete .SU from the root zone and force registrants to migrate their Internet identities to other TLDs. I can't find anything official about this on the ICANN web site, so it's hard to know where the truth lies, but I find forced migration from one TLD to another fundamentally at odds with ICANN's core value of maintaining "stability."
A clean and tidy Internet naming system might be nice, but a stable one is more important. Add: A reader points to this entry on the official ICANN weblog. I added a question in the comments field. Wednesday, September 19

...especially if you're a conspiracy theorist from outside the United States.
AMERICANNETWORK Yes, there it is, hidden in plain sight: the real U.S. agenda for control of the root. :-) Friday, September 7

This is just about the best offer I've seen in a long time: write ICANN's RFP for new gTLD applications. How cool would that be?

Read this, my latest on Name Brief, before you cash out your Fidelity Magellan fund in favor of domain names.
