Forwarded from a friend, an e-mail from Dotster to its customers:

"Congratulations - We've registered the .info version of your .com domains for you - for FREE! Thanks to our great relationship with the .info registry, we were able to secure the .info version of many of your .com domains absolutely free.

We've added these domain names to your current Dotster account for you to manage in any way you see fit. Rest assured, these names are NOT set to auto-renew. They are yours to use for an entire year with no catch."

Our great relationship with the .info registry? I thought all registrars were treated equally....

Add: I'm assuming that Dotster picked up the .INFO names last quarter during the free registration period and that it doesn't enjoy any special relationship with Afilias. Either way, something is false about the statement "Thanks to our great relationship with the .info registry...."  Either the registry is breaching its contract by favoring Dotster (highly doubtful) or Dotster is creating the false impression that it enjoys favorable status, which it does not (my guess).
