Software Loyalty
From what I can tell, Moveable Type has an extraordinarily high degree of loyalty from its users. I can't understand that. It's a nice piece of software, but it doesn't strike me as heads and shoulders above the competition. It's certainly not as feature rich as Radio. Is it because it runs on *nix/bsd? Or is there something I'm missing about the whole MT experience?

Ben and Mena have created the most useable blog application that the market has seen yet. It does what it is supposed to and mostly stays out of the way. Its really good at the basics - as it should be. It really fits the definition of JGE - Just Good Enough. Radio, I hate to say it, is barely good enough - its worse at a lot more things - currently. Its also a much more powerful platform going forward. MT simply doesn't scale in the same multi-dimensional way that Radio does.
As users become more discerning, the definition of "useful" will evolve, but for now, it is pretty much the same that as what MT has to offer.
Of course, its my goal to upset the utility apple-cart and give the good folks over at Userland some well-intentioned competition. Philosophically, I think that we're both very close to being on the same page - theyve got a headstart of a few versions though :)

That makes sense. Radio and Blogger have both had their own problems with stability, so if MT is stable, that counts for a lot. Still, it seems awfully vanilla to inspire as much passion as it does. Features are added on through plug-ins, of varying quality, usability and utility. In MT, I see a small development team, content to keep the product simple and stable. In Radio, I see a small development team pushing the boundaries of what it means to blog. That's one of the reasons I've been so loyal to Radio in spite of its operational issues.
