Here's a new podcast. I didn't quit podcasting! Of course, I didn't. I just didn't have anything to say until now.

The first podcast in a long time. Blame it on baseball. I talk through the .XXX debacle, review the news and the blog statements from the blogging Directors (Crawford | Markovski). (iPro Radio 75 | 10.4 Megabytes, 18 Minutes). Header Music: "Awake" by Letters to Cleo.

I read and rant through three ICANN documents: the ICANN Special Meeting Voting Transcript, the ICANN Joint Statement from Affirmative Voting Board Members, and the ICANN Separate Statements of Board Members. If you'd like to read along with me at home, get the documents from the ICANN web site and join me back here for 24 minutes of fun. (iPro Radio 74 | 24 Minutes).

Did you see that the ICANN Board approved the proposed Verisign settlement and .COM renewal? Of course, you did. Did you know that this means billions of dollars of revenue for Verisign? Of course, you did. Did you know I would spend 13 minutes and 20 seconds talking about it all today? Yup, you probably knew that too. On today's show, ICANN, at the Crossroads, gets run over by Verisign. (iPro Radio 73 | 13 Minutes).

Last night's Radio GoDaddy is worth a link of its own. Bob Parsons, Tim Ruiz, Nima Jones, and David Lawrence talk about what the ICANN-Verisign deal would mean for registrars and registrants. Must listening. If you have iTunes, you can subscribe by clicking on this purple icon:
. The RSS feed is here:
. The whole show is entertaining, but the ICANN-Verisign conversation begins at 8 minutes, 30 seconds into the show. After the break, it resumes at 20 minutes, 15 seconds. Nima Jones has a terrific question for Bob Parsons: "Do you feel disrespected?"And the quote of the hour comes from Bob Parsons. What signal is ICANN sending to the world when it announces that this is a deal worth signing? "We are inept. Replace us." Meanwhile, Marcus Faure reports to the Registrars: "I would like to alert those of you who have not been in the teleconf with ICANN staff last Monday that ICANN staff is convinced that the revised settlement agreement should be signed and that they will recommend this to the Board." Draw your own conclusions. Tuesday, February 14

Happy Valentine's Day. Today's show starts with a review of last week's show, then moves to Internet Governance and this week's organizational meeting for the U.N.'s Internet Governance Forum. Finally a question: who represents end-users? Do they represent themselves only in the marketplace or is there a role for them in "governance" and "technical coordination" as well? (iPro Radio 72 | 12 Minutes).

What a terrific show. I'm grateful to my three guests who allowed me to
bring a combined 25+ years of experience with ICANN to this podcast.
The conversation started last week on this weblog when Anthony Van
Couvering (Names@Work) posted this comment. Chris Ambler (Image Online Design) followed up with a comment. Then Elliot Noss (Tucows)
followed up with a comment of his own. So I brought them together again
on this podcast to continue the discussion around one broad theme: how
will new registries roll out new gTLDs in a way that will expand the
usable name space and bring in new registrants, not just sunrise
registrants and speculators? (iPro Radio 71 | 42 Minutes).

A new listener from audio.weblogs.com asks the question: what in the world are you talking about? Good question. Is the podcast too much "inside baseball"? I also provide a few more thoughts on the ICANN-Verisign deal which, I predict in my infinite knowledge, will be posted late today. (iPro Radio Episode 70 / 11 Minutes).

I cover a lot of ground today, from the organizational meeting of the Internet Governance Forum to the ICANN-VRSN settlement to new gTLDs to the At Large Advisory Committee. (iPro Radio 69 / 13 Minutes). Header Music: Theme from Bret Fausett's Podcast or Some Other Name Yet To Be Announced.
